sed does not work as expected

Hi, 

I would like to transform a string with
echo ./a/a/a/w | sed -n '1,$ s/[^\/]*/../gp'
I get 
..../..../..../..../..
but I expected to get 
../../../../..

Can someone tell what's going wrong?
